Innsbruck Christmas markets 2026: dates, hours and where to stay

The Innsbruck Christmas markets open on 13 November 2026. The Old Town market under the Golden Roof and the Marktplatz market by the Inn run until 23 December, daily from 11:00 to 21:00, while Maria-Theresien-Strasse (from 25 November) and the Hungerburg (from 20 November) stay open until 6 January 2027. For the shortest walk to the stalls, stay in the old town.

Old Town market under the Golden Roof

This is the traditional market, and the one most people picture: 65 stalls in the lanes in front of the Golden Roof, around a natural Christmas tree about 20 m tall. Tower brass players perform Christmas music from the Golden Roof every day in the late afternoon, and a viewing terrace in the middle of the market looks over the stalls. Twenty fairy-tale figures and five giants stand in the old town lanes for children to find.

Dates and hours 2026: 13 November to 23 December, daily 11:00 to 21:00. Stalls selling goods close at 20:00, the food and drink stalls an hour later.

Wilten, St. Nikolaus and the LUMAGICA light trail

Two small neighbourhood markets suit an evening away from the crowds. The Wiltener Weihnachtszauber on the Wiltener Platzl has 10 stalls with handmade jewellery, one-off crafts and food, a stage programme and children's afternoons on Sundays from 16:00 to 17:30; it runs 20 November to 23 December 2026, daily 16:00 to 20:00. The St. Nikolaus market on Hans-Brenner-Platz is the quiet, nostalgic one, with five wooden stalls; it runs 20 November to 23 December, daily 16:00 to 21:00, and St Nicholas visits the children on 6 December at 18:00.

LUMAGICA is not a market but a light trail of about 1 km through the Hofgarten, open 13 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, 17:00 to 20:30 (last entry 19:00). It is open daily until 17 January (closed 24 December), then Thursday to Sunday. Online tickets cost 19.90 euros for adults and 14.90 euros for children 6 to 14, plus 2 euros in the Christmas holidays.

Hall in Tirol: the Advent calendar town

Hall in Tirol is nine minutes from Innsbruck by train. On the medieval Oberer Stadtplatz the house fronts become a giant Advent calendar, with each date projected onto a wall, and brass groups and choirs play every day from 18:00. Children get a petting zoo, ice skating and storytellers.

Dates and hours 2026: 20 November to 24 December, Monday to Friday 15:00 to 20:00, Saturday 11:00 to 20:00, Sunday 13:00 to 20:00, with food stalls open until 21:00. On 8 December it opens 13:00 to 20:00 and on 24 December 10:00 to 13:00.

Rattenberg and Seefeld

Rattenberg, Austria's smallest town, holds its Advent from 20 November to 20 December 2026. On Advent weekends the lanes are lit by candles, torches and open fires with almost no electric light. There are few stalls, but the shops and glass studios stay open, the Anklöpfler sing on Sundays, and on Advent Saturdays a little Advent train runs between Brixlegg and Rattenberg. The listing gives the dates but not daily hours, so check before you go.

Seefeld, about 25 km from Innsbruck, opens its Christmas market in the pedestrian zone on 20 November 2026 from 14:00, with log-cabin huts, mulled wine and evening music. Last season it ran until 6 January.

Winter day trips from Innsbruck

Where to stay for the Christmas markets

The Old Town, Marktplatz and Maria-Theresien-Strasse markets are a few minutes' walk apart, so a hotel in the old town or on Maria-Theresien-Strasse lets you walk to all three and drop off shopping between visits. The old town hotels above are the closest.

If you arrive by train, the hotels around the Hauptbahnhof are 11 to 12 minutes' walk from the Golden Roof, straight up Maria-Theresien-Strasse past the modern market. For better value, Pradl is a few minutes by tram from the centre.
