Above the city
Mutters, Lans and Axams are villages on the sunny terraces just south and west of Innsbruck, with views across the valley to the Nordkette. Hotels here tend to be family-run, with gardens, pools and half board, and you get more space and quieter nights than in town while the Stubaitalbahn and regional buses run into the centre. In winter the Muttereralm is on the doorstep and the Axamer Lizum, an Olympic venue with 40 km of pistes, is a short ride from Axams. In summer there are mountain carts and the Bikepark at the Muttereralm, the Lanser See for a swim and trails straight from the door. It suits families, skiers, hikers, cyclists and couples after a spa break.
