Hotels in Innsbruck city centre

The city centre is the practical choice: hotels around Maria-Theresien-Strasse and the Hauptbahnhof, plus the calmer districts of Wilten, Pradl and Amras a short tram ride away. You can step off the train and be in your room within minutes, and the old town is a short walk north of the station. In winter the ski buses, the Stubaitalbahn and the Swarovski shuttle all leave from the centre, and the market on Maria-Theresien-Strasse runs until 6 January 2027. In summer you have the Hofgarten, Ambras Castle in Amras and the city's lakes and pools within easy reach. It suits rail travellers, skiers who want to try several areas, business trips and anyone watching the budget.

Getting there

The Hauptbahnhof is the hub: ÖBB trains, the Stubaitalbahn to Fulpmes and the Swarovski Kristallwelten shuttle all leave from here, and the old town is about a 12 minute walk north. Trams 2, 3 and 5 stop at Leipziger Platz in Pradl and reach the centre in a few minutes, tram 3 runs out to Amras, and city bus C also serves Amras. In winter ski buses stop outside some station hotels and at the Hofgarten coach park.

What is here

Maria-Theresien-Strasse is the main shopping street, with the Wiltener Weihnachtszauber in Wilten and the Maria-Theresien-Strasse market in winter, plus public skating at Olympiaworld from November to March. Wilten is close to the Bergisel ski jump, and Amras has Ambras Castle with its Renaissance halls and gardens. In summer the Baggersee Rossau and the Tivoli outdoor pool are the city's places to swim.

Good to know

A 24 hour IVB ticket for the city costs 7.30 euros, and most hotels give the Welcome Card on stays of two nights or more. Hotels in Pradl and Amras offer free or cheaper parking and quick motorway access for day trips.

Staying in Innsbruck city centre

Is it better to stay by the Hauptbahnhof or in the old town?

By the station suits rail travellers and skiers, since trains, the Stubaitalbahn and ski buses leave from there. The old town is about 12 minutes' walk away, so you lose little by staying near the station.

Are Pradl and Amras well connected?

Yes. Trams 2, 3 and 5 stop at Leipziger Platz in Pradl and reach the centre in a few minutes, and tram 3 runs to its Amras terminus at Philippine-Welser-Strasse.

When is the Christmas market on Maria-Theresien-Strasse?

It runs from 25 November 2026 to 6 January 2027, daily from 11:00 to 21:00. It stays open longer than the old town market, which closes on 23 December.

Can I visit Swarovski Kristallwelten from the city centre?

Yes. An e-shuttle bus leaves the Hauptbahnhof five times a day for Wattens. A Day Pass with the shuttle costs 38 euros for adults.
