Swarovski Kristallwelten, about 20 km east of Innsbruck, is the most popular half-day trip and works in any weather. Inside are the Chambers of Wonder; outside, the garden of the Giant holds the Crystal Cloud of some 800,000 hand-mounted crystals, art installations, a play tower and a big outdoor playground. In summer the grounds host circus shows.
It opens daily from 09:00 to 19:00 (last entry 18:00). Adults pay €25 online or €27 on site, children aged 6 to 17 €9, and under 6s go free. The shuttle bus from Innsbruck is sold together with admission, and the Innsbruck Card covers both.

Hall in Tirol is about 8 km east of Innsbruck, with trains every 15 minutes taking about nine minutes, and public transport there is covered by the Innsbruck Card. Its historic old town is made for an unhurried morning, and the Münze Hall mint museum in Burg Hasegg is included in the Innsbruck Card.
If you would rather arrive by bike, the guided e-bike tour from Innsbruck climbs to a 13th-century castle ruin in the forest and ends with coffee in a medieval old town about 10 km from the city before returning along the Inn.
The Stubai valley starts about 20 minutes south of Innsbruck, with public transport every 15 minutes. At its head, about 45 minutes from the city, the Stubai Glacier was open in summer 2026 in three phases: to Gamsgarten (2,600 m) from 20 June to 3 July, all the way to the TOP OF TYROL summit platform at 3,210 m from 4 July to 6 September, and to Fernau (2,300 m) from 7 to 27 September. Up top are the Schaufeljoch chapel, a glacier trail, guided glacier walks and a high playground with a wooden mammoth.
Lower in the valley, the Serlesbahnen in Mieders (14 May to 1 November 2026) have a 2.8 km summer toboggan run, water play and lakes at the top station, and a road train to the Maria Waldrast monastery. Neustift is the place for tandem paragliding from the Elfer.

The Achensee makes a full, relaxed day: take the train to Jenbach, ride the Achenseebahn up to the Seespitz pier, and use the boats to hop between Seespitz, Buchau, Pertisau, Gaisalm, Seehofkapelle Lido and Scholastika. The north and south round trips start from Pertisau. In 2026 the hop-on hop-off day ticket could be redeemed with the Achenseecard from 1 May to 1 November. By car, take the A12 to the Wiesing exit and the B181 up to the lake.
King Ludwig II's castle at Schwangau, across the German border, is the big-name day trip from Innsbruck. The interior can be seen only on a timed guided tour, and tickets are sold online at hohenschwangau.de, with any leftovers released on the day at the Ticket Center Hohenschwangau. Photos are not allowed inside and large bags cannot be taken in.
Two ways to make it easier: a fast-track ticket with audio guide, collected at Füssen station before you travel on to the castle (the visit inside lasts about an hour), or a private tour from Innsbruck with a driver, which can add the Highline 179 suspension bridge and views of the Zugspitze and the Blindsee on the way.
The easy way to see Neuschwanstein from Innsbruck: a private driver-guide picks you up in town, books your castle slot and handles the parking and roads.

The Krimml Waterfalls drop 380 m in three tiers, and the waterfall trail is open from mid April to the end of October (in 2026 until 1 November), with a paid entry. The lowest fall is only 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the car park, so even a short visit shows you the spray. It is a long day from Innsbruck, so check the route in a journey planner before you set off.
If the weather turns, the Schwaz silver mine, east along the Inn valley, takes you deep into the mountain on a mine train for a classic tour of about 90 minutes. It stays at 12 °C inside whatever the weather, so bring a warm layer. The 2026 opening hours and prices were not on the pages we could reach, so check silberbergwerk.at before you go.
Back in Innsbruck, the Hofburg, Schloss Ambras, the Tirol Panorama and the AUDIOVERSUM science centre are all good indoor alternatives.
