Tandem paragliding in the Stubai Valley (Neustift)

Rated 5 out of 5 by 283 GetYourGuide reviewers

The easiest way to try paragliding near Innsbruck if you have never done it: your pilot meets you at the bottom, rides up with you and handles everything. Bookings are limited to two people, so it suits a solo flyer or a couple who want to fly one after the other.

Starts inNeustift im StubaitalAll year

You meet your pilot at the ticket office of the Elfer cable car in Neustift im Stubaital, about 20 minutes' drive or a bus ride up the valley from Innsbruck. The listing includes your cable car ticket, so there is no queue to sort out yourself.

You ride up together, walk to the launch meadow and get kitted out with a harness and helmet; the listing also lends shoes and a jacket if you need them. The pilot runs through the take-off: a few steps down the slope, keep running, and the wing lifts you off.

The flight itself lasts about 15 minutes, depending on the thermals, according to the operator. You glide over the Stubai Valley with the Stubai Glacier ahead and Innsbruck far down the valley. Both your hands are free, so you can take photos if your phone or camera is securely strapped.

You land on the meadow beside the valley station and get a flight certificate to take home. Allow about an hour from meeting to landing.

In winter

The operator flies in winter too, from launch areas kept clear of the ski runs; wear ski clothes and gloves. The Elfer lifts close after 1 November 2026 and the winter opening date was not yet published when we checked, so look at the calendar for early-winter dates.

In summer

Summer brings the longest days and the best thermals over the Stubai Valley; the Elfer lifts ran daily from 14 May to 1 November in 2026. Long trousers and a windproof layer are enough for most summer flights.

Before you book

  1. Wind decides the day

Flights only go ahead when the pilot judges the wind safe. Overcast days are fine, but strong wind grounds everyone.

What to do. The operator asks you to call or send a WhatsApp message the day before to confirm the flight and the launch area. Leave a spare day in your plans if you can.

Questions

Do I need any experience or fitness?

No experience is needed. You need to be healthy enough to fly and able to take a few running steps at take-off; the pilot steers the whole flight.

Is there a weight limit?

The listing says the flight is not suitable for people over 110 kg. The operator suggests a passenger weight of roughly 25 to 110 kg.

Can children fly?

The operator sets no fixed age limit, but anyone under 18 needs a consent form signed by a parent or guardian, and the weight guideline still applies.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The pilot decides on the day. Call or message the operator the day before to confirm. If you cancel at least 24 hours ahead, you get a full refund.

Can I take photos in the air?

Yes. Both your hands are free during the flight, so you can film or take pictures as long as your phone or camera is well secured.
