Axamer Lizum from Innsbruck 2026/27: the Olympic slopes and the free ski bus

Axamer Lizum, 19 km from Innsbruck, was an Olympic alpine venue in 1964 and 1976: 9 lifts, 40 km of wide pistes from blue to black up to 2,340 m, a well-known snowpark and the Hoadl House sun terrace. The free ski bus from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof takes about 40 minutes. Winter 2026/27 opens on 20 November 2026 and runs to early April; the SKI plus CITY Pass covers it, and 2026/27 day pass prices had not yet been published in October.

Skiing where the Olympians raced

Axamer Lizum was an Olympic venue at the Innsbruck Winter Games of 1964 and 1976, and the wide, open pistes built for racing still define it. The ski area spreads around a high bowl above Axams, with 40 km of runs from easy blues to steep blacks, high-alpine slopes and good freeride terrain when the snow is fresh.

At the top, the Hoadl House at 2,340 m is a mountain restaurant with large sun terraces and views back over Innsbruck's mountains. Lifts run daily from 08:30 to 16:00.

An easy win for almost everyone: a short trip from the centre to an Olympic ski jump, a lift up Zaha Hadid's tower and one of the best views of Innsbruck from the terrace on top.

Who Axamer Lizum suits

It is a strong all-round choice: wide pistes for confident intermediates, steeper and off-piste terrain for experts, and practice slopes with children's courses starting daily at 10:00. The Golden Roofpark snowpark is one of the best known in the region.

Children up to 6 ski free with an adult. For a quieter beginner day, the smaller Muttereralm next door is the gentler option.

Season 2026/27 and opening events

The Hoadl House opens for winter on 20 November 2026, and the ski opening party with David Puentez is on 27 November 2026. The operator says the season starts in late November, depending on snow, and runs to early April; a ski portal lists 11 April 2027 as the planned end. There is a pre-New Year's Eve party at the Hoadl House on 30 December 2026.

Lift passes at Axamer Lizum

Day, half-day and multi-day passes are sold at the ticket office and in the online shop. The operator had not published its 2026/27 winter prices when we checked on 20 October 2026; for reference, an adult day pass cost 63 euros in 2025/26, according to ski price surveys. Family and youth rates are available.

Axamer Lizum is one of the 12 ski areas on the SKI plus CITY Pass Stubai Innsbruck (2026/27 adult 162 euros for 2 days, 433 euros for 7), and the operator says getting there by ski bus is included with the pass.
