Marmota is a small hostel in Amras, on the south-east side of Innsbruck, about 500 metres from Schloss Ambras. Tram 3 stops at Philippine-Welser-Strasse, three or four minutes' walk away, and runs into the centre and to the main station. The motorway is close by too, which helps if you are driving out to the ski areas.
There are 57 beds in single, double and twin rooms, some with mountain views, and in dorms for four or six. Every room has its own bathroom, and the larger dorms have two. Breakfast is included, the bar serves hot and cold drinks, and the terrace looks out to the Alps and the Nordkette. Ski, bike and luggage storage are free, bikes can be hired, and there is parking for a daily fee. It suits budget travellers, groups of friends and skiers who want a clean, simple base.
In winter
Free ski storage and quick access to the motorway make it a practical base for driving to the ski areas around Innsbruck.
In summer
Hire a bike at the hostel, walk 500 metres to Schloss Ambras and its park, and finish on the terrace with the Nordkette in view.
