The Gundolf family has been putting on this show in Innsbruck since 1967, and several generations still share the stage. It takes place in the Alpensaal by the Messe, a short walk from the old town; the entrance is on Ingenieur-Etzel-Strasse, round the corner from Kapuzinergasse 11, and the hall is on the first floor.
If you book the dinner option, you eat at 19:00 before the show, or at 20:30 as it starts. The set menu is pumpkin soup, roast pork with potatoes and sauerkraut, and apple strudel with cream. The show-only ticket includes one drink.
The curtain goes up at 20:30 and the show runs to about 22:00 with an interval. The listing's programme moves quickly: Schuhplattler and figure dances, yodelling, a tune on the singing saw, alphorn, tuned cowbells, the zither, the hackbrett and a wooden xylophone, then the woodchoppers' dance before the break.
The second half brings the miners' dance and the cowbell dance, and the finale picks up songs from the countries the audience has come from. Expect to be clapping along by then. CDs and DVDs of the programme are on sale at the hall.
In winter
From November to April the family plays every Wednesday and Friday (their site says this may change), so plan your week around it. A warm hall, a hot dinner and a strudel make it a good evening after a cold day in the mountains.
In summer
From May to October there is a show every night, so it fits any itinerary. It finishes around 22:00, still light enough in June for a walk back along the Inn.
