Hotel Schwarzer Adler is a 15th-century patrician house on Kaiserjägerstrasse, a few steps from the Hofgarten and the Hofburg, and run by the Ultsch family for five generations. It was fully modernised and extended in 2020, and the old town, Maria-Theresien-Strasse and the Golden Roof are all an easy walk away, with the Nordkette funicular about five minutes on foot.
Rooms run from design doubles to deluxe rooms with a balcony or terrace looking towards the Nordkette, plus signature rooms themed on Emperor Maximilian, Swarovski and Versace, two suites and a family apartment with its own kitchen. Breakfast is a generous buffet in a vaulted brick cellar, with honey from the family's own bees. There is a sauna, a rooftop terrace with city views and the Pfiff Bar for cocktails. It suits couples and anyone who wants a hotel with real character close to the centre.
