Altstadthotel Weisses Kreuz sits on Herzog-Friedrich-Strasse in the pedestrian old town, less than 100 metres from the Golden Roof. The house dates from the 15th century and Mozart stayed here in 1769, by the hotel's own account. Its owners reopened it in summer 2021 after a redesign by the noa* architecture studio, mixing baroque details with bold modern touches.
The 48 rooms, which the hotel calls chambers, are all different: from the compact Besenkammer for travellers who only need a bed, to the Golden Roof Suite with a view of the famous balcony and the Mozart Suite with its own pool table. Reception, a regional breakfast buffet and the Blaue Brigitte loft bar are on the sixth floor, reached by lift, with views over the rooftops. It suits couples, design fans and anyone who wants to step straight out into the old town.
