Hungerburg funicular tickets (Hungerburgbahn return)

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 176 GetYourGuide reviewers

The quick, cheap way up above Innsbruck: 8 minutes from the old town to the Hungerburg at 860 m, through stations designed by Zaha Hadid, with the city spread out below. Perfect when you have an hour or two; it goes no higher than the Hungerburg, so book the Top of Innsbruck ticket for the summit.

Starts inInnsbruck city centreAll year

The ride starts at 560 m at the Hungerburgbahn station beside Congress Innsbruck, Rennweg 3, a short walk from the Golden Roof. Zaha Hadid's flowing glass roofs are worth a look before you board.

The funicular runs out across the Inn and up the hillside, stopping on the way at the Alpine Zoo, and reaches the Hungerburg in about 8 minutes. Cars leave every 15 minutes.

At the top the panorama platform looks over the rooftops to the mountains on the far side of the valley. Café das Hungerburg serves coffee, and Restaurant Alpina has traditional Tyrolean food, says the listing. From here walkers can set off to nearby huts in 45 minutes to an hour and a half.

The funicular runs from 07:15 on weekdays and 08:00 at weekends until 19:15, so it also works late in the afternoon when the light turns golden over the city.

In winter

From 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027 the Hungerburg has the city's highest Christmas market, ten stalls with a view over Innsbruck, and a story hour for children on Saturdays from 16:00 to 17:00. The funicular closes for maintenance from 2 to 19 November 2026.

In summer

In summer the Hungerburg is a starting point for walks to huts and pastures on the Nordkette, from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, and for the cable car on to the Seegrube.
