Sporthotel Igls sits in the centre of Igls, the village on the sunny plateau above Innsbruck at the foot of the Patscherkofel. It began life in 1889 as the Altwirt inn, and the owners who took over in 2019 have renovated the rooms and restored the old Stube. The city is just below, but Igls feels like a mountain village.
The 73 boutique-style rooms and suites all look out to the mountains. Breakfast is included, and so is the Health and Spa area: an indoor relax pool open from 7am to 9pm, a Finnish sauna with hourly infusions, infrared, a Kneipp shower, a fitness room and a garden lawn. Half board with a three-course dinner can be added, children under three stay free in their parents' room, and parking or the garage costs little. It suits couples after a spa break, families, skiers on the Patscherkofel and summer walkers.
