Innsbruck private food tour with a licensed guide

Rated 5 out of 5 by 44 GetYourGuide reviewers

A private food walk where the stories matter as much as the tastings: three and a half hours with a licensed guide, Tyrolean specialities along the way and a sweet finish in a traditional café. Couples, families and small groups who love history and good food will enjoy it most. The one thing to know: the price per person falls as your group grows.

Starts inInnsbruck city centreAll year

Your guide collects you from your hotel in the city centre, and the tour is yours alone: just your party, in English, German, French or Dutch. It runs for 2 to 15 people.

The walk winds through the old town's narrow lanes and past its colourful houses to the Inn Bridge, with the Nordkette rising behind. Along the way the guide looks behind the façades for the courtyards and corners most visitors miss, with tales of Tyrolean inns and eating habits of times gone by.

At the Golden Roof you hear how its 2,657 fire-gilded shingles inspired a confectioner to create a sweet version, made with honey-roasted almonds, pistachio marzipan, almond nougat and dark chocolate. Between the sights you taste a selection of hearty Tyrolean specialities, with drinks.

The tour ends with sweet treats in one of the old town's traditional cafés or confectioners, a good place to linger once your guide has gone.

In winter

A slow walk with warming food stops suits a cold afternoon, and from mid November the old town is full of Christmas market stalls and lights. Dress warmly, as this is mostly outdoors between tastings.

In summer

Summer brings the old town to life and long evenings for lingering at the café afterwards. Ask for a cooler morning or late afternoon start on hot days.
