The Grassmayr foundry is at Leopoldstrasse 53 in Wilten, south of the centre, near the Wilten basilica; the Sightseer bus stops at Basilika Wilten. The museum opens Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:00, and on Saturdays too until the end of 2026.
The exhibition explains how a bell is made, from the mould to the casting, and how physics, art and faith decide its sound. Information is available in German, English, Italian and French.
You can look into the working foundry, where bells are still produced, and then try the interactive exhibits. The favourite is standing inside a large singing bowl and feeling the sound move through your whole body.
A visit takes about an hour to an hour and a half, and the museum has won the Austrian Museum Award. It pairs well with the Bergisel ski jump, a short ride further along the same road.
In winter
A good indoor option on a cold or snowy day, open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 16:00 all year. The museum lists Saturday opening until 31 December 2026; check the operator's site before planning a Saturday visit in 2027.
In summer
Open Monday to Friday and on Saturdays, 10:00 to 16:00, so it fits easily around a morning at the Bergisel or an afternoon in the old town.
